SUNDANCE, Utah –
Sundance Mountain Resort and the UVU School of the Arts announces “The Sound of Music” for the 2023 Sundance Summer Theatre in partnership with Utah Valley University Department of Theatrical Arts. This year marks 15 years of collaboration between the two organizations, bringing the best of Broadway to life in a spectacular mountain setting.
One of the world’s most beloved musicals, The Sound of Music tells the heartwarming story of Maria; a high-spirited postulant who takes a job serving as a governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain, bringing music and joy to the family as they escape over the mountains on the brink of World War II. Based on the inspirational, real-life story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, the production features some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s best-known songs, including “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, and the title song “The Sound of Music”.
“The stunning backdrop of Mt Timpanogos against the Sundance stage is the perfect setting for this musical” says Mari Turner, Programming Manager and Producer at Sundance Mountain Resort. “The Sound of Music” is our most requested show title and we are thrilled this year marks its return to Sundance”.
We hope you will join us for this year’s special performance. The Summer Theatre is held at the beautiful Sundance Amphitheater, rated one of the “10 Best Outdoor Theatre Experiences in the Country” by Fodor’s Travel Guide.
