It all started with a tree in 1970

In 1970, Robert Redford built the first building at Sundance Mountain Resort: The Tree Room, a cabin constructed around an actual tree. Since then, the restaurant has grown but maintains its rustic, intimate atmosphere while serving some of the best cuisine in the area.

Fine dining table setting in the Tree Room at Sundance Resort.

Decorated with Native American art and pieces from Robert Redford’s personal collection

The tables are surrounded by kachina dolls, pottery, large blankets, and photos from Redford’s films. Next to the tree is a large fireplace incorporating unique stone/concrete designed & made by Robert Redford himself.

The building is designed with large windows to facilitate natural lighting and views of surrounding nature, especially magical with drifting snow and changing colors of the seasons. The dining philosophy incorporates modern French techniques with American comfort in a rustic Western, Rocky Mountain setting.

“The first year, I couldn’t get a loan from the bank. The waiters didn’t show up, so the owners had to wait on tables… And the Tree in the Tree Room died. But, we endured. To us, Sundance is and always will be a dream. What you see, smell, taste and feel here is a dream being carefully nurtured.
It is an area whose pledge is to people. What we offer in the form of art and culture, spirit and service, is homegrown and available to all.
We hope you like it.”
