SUNDANCE, Utah – December 4, 2023 – Sundance Mountain Resort and the UVU School of the Arts today announced “Newsies” as their 2024 Sundance Summer Theatre production. This year marks 16 years of collaboration between the two organizations, representing a union of artistic excellence and natural splendor.
Based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, “Newsies” tells the inspiring story of the newsboys and newsgirls who stand up against powerful publishers to demand fair treatment. The musical follows the storyline of the charismatic but rebellious Jack Kelly, who rallies the Newsies in a fight against the greedy newspaper publishers. Filled with energetic and catchy songs, the musical explores themes of solidarity, friendship, the power of the press and the relatable tale of the underdog standing up for what is right.
“We are excited to once again collaborate with Utah Valley University to present Disney’s ‘Newsies’ at Sundance. This production will seamlessly integrate the outstanding talent and expertise of UVU’s School of the Arts with the captivating backdrop of Sundance Resort,” says Mari Turner, Director of Programming and Art at Sundance.
Newsies will run from July 18 to August 10 with performances scheduled Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday with an additional show Tuesday August 6 due to popular demand. Tickets are available for purchase in the spring. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the thrill of “Newsies” amidst the natural beauty of Sundance Mountain Resort.
